Already a dominant force in the crossover and SUV field, Ford amped up its presence in the category last year with the Mustang Mach-E all-electric mid-size crossover.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2022, the Mach-E’s most notable change is a nominal increase in battery capacity for its standard- and extended-range configurations that will add a small amount of driving range.
Available Trims
Ford offers the Mach-E in Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT Performance trim levels. Select, Premium, and California Route 1 all start with RWD, with Select and Premium offering an AWD option. GT Performance comes standard with AWD. Select and Premium also start with a 68-kWh battery; an 88-kWh battery pack is optional Premium, and standard in California Route 1 and GT Performance.
Standard Features
Select trim’s cabin comes with a 15.5-inch touchscreen, 10.2-inch gauge cluster, six-speaker stereo, wireless phone charging, a garage door remote, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Outside, you’ll see passive keyless entry, rain-sensing wipers, phone-as-a-key technology, 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, and heated side mirrors.
Premium adds 10-speaker audio, heated front seats and steering wheel, ambient interior lighting, panoramic sunroof, hands-free tailgate, 19-inch wheels, and power-folding side mirrors.
California Route 1 is equipped largely like the Select model, but adds the extended-range battery and boasts a bit more power.
Finally, GT Performance adds ActiveX upholstery, and 20-inch wheels.
Key Options
A Select comfort/tech package brings Co-Pilot 360, Blue Cruise hands-free driving, active park assist, 360-degree camera views, hands-free tailgate, heated front seats and steering wheel, and power-folding mirrors. Co-Pilot 360 is also available as a stand-alone option.
Fuel Economy
Ford’s energy consumption estimates for the Mach-E start at 2.1/2.5 Le/100 km (city/highway) for the RWD/standard-range combination. California Route 1 is the thriftiest AWD model, at 2.3/2.6 Le/100 km. At the top end of the range is the GT Performance trim, which is rated at 2.7/3.1 Le/100 km.
Competition
The Ford Mustang Mach-E’s key competitors are the Tesla Model Y, the Audi E-Tron, and Jaguar I-Pace.
